DREAM

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

As part of a month-long installation (November 2020) at StoreFrontLab, artist Jenell Del Cid opened a window into the luscious escapism and potentially transcendent nature of dreams and dreaming. Through the iconography of gold, clouds, and endlessly shifting dream imagery, Jenell presented the act of sleep and dreaming into a tool for creating future narratives: our cloudy, diffuse, subconscious wanderings become a bridge to a potential future “Golden Age,” the unhindered visions of dream, alchemically transformed to gold. Jenell posed the possibility of seeking solace in the cloudiness of ephemeral fantasies in a chaotic age. In Mayan cosmology, the creator took the form of a cloud, from whence they created the universe.
